Through The Eyes of Artists
A group of artists come together for a human rights project to discuss issues of social justice and citizenship and to make art. Over the course of a year the film follows the group’s tentative first meetings through to seeing them become a feisty collective producing fabulous art. Living on the margins of society, often patronized and dismissed, they are convinced that their voices will not be heard. In the end we witness their struggle to overcome personal conflict and doubt to create art that delivers a powerful social message. This portrait film provides a refreshing look into the lives of people with developmental disabilities; and as we get to know them as individuals the stereotypes of disability dissolve away, exposing a capacity for humour and insight beyond expectation.
Through the Eyes of Artis showed at Global Visions Documentary Film Festival Edmonton, Reel Femme Film Festival and ReelHeart Film Festival Toronto, Disability Art Forum Vancouver and aired on Global TV Edmonton.
